The winter storm warning is in effect until 9 p.m. tonight. This is predicted to be the biggest snow this season with the Chicago area expecting 8 to 14 inches during the duration of the storm. The warning is in effect for Cook, DuPage, Lake, Will, Boone, De Kalb, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, La Salle, Lee, McHenry, Ogle and Winnebago counties. The core of the heaviest snow is predicted to be between interstate-88 and interstate-90. We urge everyone to be safe and make smart choices.

- Expect very low visibility when driving and keep a flashlight, food, and water in your car along with a shovel in case of an emergency
- Accelerate and decelerate slowly when driving
- Drive slowly
- Before driving, let someone know where you are going, your route, and your estimated time of arrival. Be sure to have a full tank of gas as well.
- If you go outside and you lose feeling in your nose, feet, ears, or hands, cover the exposed skin and seek medical help immediately. You could have frostbite
- If you are outside, keep your clothes dry. Wet clothes make you lose body heat and can increase your risk of hypothermia
- Be careful when shoveling snow. Take frequent breaks and lift lighter loads. Working too hard can cause heart attacks
