Summer is a great time to travel, and for good reason. The weather is great, school is out, and there are music and street festivals all over the world.  Airfare can quickly become the most expensive part of your summer travel plans if you aren’t careful. Save money and find cheap airfare with CreditBox’s tips below.

Know the Best Time to Book Flights
If you are going to book your summer travel for the peak months of July and August, you are going to pay more than if you book for other months. Booking in May, June and October can help you save money and get cheaper airfare. It also helps to book flights at non-peak times of the day. Try finding flights between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. or any time after 8 p.m. Flying on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays will also save you money, since most people don’t want to use extra vacation days for cheap airfare.

Don’t Book Too Early, or Too Late
Some sites suggest the best time to book airfare is anywhere between 45 and 90 days before your departure date. If you try and book too far out, or wait until the last minute, you will pay for it, literally. It has also been said that the best time to book for the cheapest airfare are Tuesdays at 3 p.m. The worst times to book are on the weekend days.

Clear your Browser Cookies
Flight prices will increase if you are searching for the same flights in the same browser. Airline websites use cookies to track your search so refreshing the page over and over will only increase your rates. They do this to pressure you into buying before the rates get higher. Use an incognito window or clear your search history and cookies before searching for your flights again to find cheap airfare and save money.

Fly Two Different Airlines
It used to be that you had to fly roundtrip on the same airline to get the best prices. Nowadays, that isn’t the case. Try searching for one-way tickets to find the cheapest prices both ways. Sites like Priceline will also show results with different airlines to find the best deals.

Use Online Booking Engines
Like Priceline, use helpful flight search websites to find the cheapest airfare instead of searching each airline individually yourself. Skyscanner, Airfare Watchdog, Momondo, and CheapoAir are just a few you can try. Compare all of your options before making a commitment.

Be Flexible
If you can be flexible with your travel dates as well as the destination you can save even more money on airfare. Websites like Kiwi and Skyscanner will let you choose the place you want to fly out from and then give you the cheapest flight dates and destinations.

Loyalty Miles
This may seem obvious, but don’t forgot to use any loyalty miles or points you have from previous trips. A lot of credit card companies offer rewards as well so be sure to check your options and research ways to use them for travel benefits.
