Every year, you set fitness goals and vow to live a healthy lifestyle as part of your New Year's resolutions. By February, all of those great plans are long forgotten as you fall back into old habits. Don't let 2021 be another year that passes you by, make those fitness goals a reality!

Start with One Goal
Many people find that when they sit down to write their resolutions, they don't know how to set goals — or they set too many goals, making their resolutions unrealistic. That's why you should always start with one solid goal. Maybe it's to fit into a certain clothing size, learn a new sport, be able to run a mile, or to work out 30 minutes a day for five days a week. Whatever it is, start there and build on it as you achieve success.

Find an Accountability Buddy
You're not the only person out there wondering how to set goals in order to achieve a healthy lifestyle. It's something that thousands of people work on every January. For this reason, we recommend finding someone else who has similar fitness goals and teaming up. You can check in each day to hold each other accountable, and if it's possible, you can even meet up to exercise together.

Stock Up on Cheap Equipment and Affordable Workout Gear
If you want to reach your goals at home, you don't need an elaborate home gym. You can start with some basic cheap equipment, like a jump rope and yoga mat. Shop at your favorite big box stores for affordable workout gear; they usually have sales after the holidays when you're ready to get started.

Look Beyond the Gym
If the gym intimidates you, don't worry. You don't need a membership to live a healthy lifestyle. You can start at home with cheap equipment. If you want the free option, you can walk or jog at a local park.

Make a Motivation List
When you sit down to make your fitness resolutions, make a list of why you want to achieve them. Do you want to look better? Lose weight? Get healthier? Feel stronger? Make a list of all the reasons why you're doing this. Keep it in a place where it can motivate you daily.

Reward Yourself
Learning how to set goals is step one of getting healthy. Achieving them is step two. What’s the third? It’s rewarding yourself for a job well done. If you stick to your plan each week, treat yourself to a little something, like a manicure or some new affordable workout gear. Be careful that you don't rely on junk food as a reward.
